Fay and Jack Ross Family Graduate Scholarships

The Department of Geoscience, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, is pleased to offer the Fay and Jack Ross Family Graduate Scholarships for exceptional applicants to our PhD program. These Scholarships are provided by an endowment from the family of philanthropists Fay and Jack Ross. Fellowships are available for all research areas supported by the Department and are awarded on the basis of the scholar’s scholastic record and academic potential. The fellowship provides a stipend of $2,000 per month for twelve months, and up to $3,000 per year for travel and research expenses. In addition, the scholarship pays all tuition, health insurance, and registration fees. These awards are made for two years with the second year contingent on satisfactory student progress.

Qualifications

To be considered for the Fay and Jack Ross Family Graduate Scholarship, students must meet the following qualifications and submit the following materials:

• Qualify for admission into the Geoscience doctoral program.
• Have a minimum undergraduate and graduate GPA of 3.5.
• Three letters of recommendation from faculty familiar with the student’s research experience and promise.

Selection Process

Geoscience faculty members are encouraged to recruit and nominate applicants for the Fay and Jack Ross Family Graduate Scholarship. Ross Scholars will be selected by the Geoscience Admissions Committee.
