COVID-19 update: Message from the Chair
Dear UNLV Geoscience community,
The NSHE Chancellor has issued a directive that all employees are to work remotely starting no later than 3/18/2020. For this reason, the UNLV Department of Geoscience staff will be working remotely and the physical office will be closed. The staff will still be able to provide service and help with any questions. Please use email or phone to get in contact (calls will be redirected to staff). The Lilly Fong Geoscience building and the Technology building will be closed except to those with key access.
The Department is preparing for the resumption of all classes in online format beginning after Spring Break. Your faculty will be in touch with you over WebCampus or UNLV email to coordinate the rest of the semester. Although we are unsure exactly how long this disruption will continue, Nevada Governor Sisolak has mandated a 30-day closure, and we should anticipate that this closure will continue longer, perhaps through the end of the semester.
At this time, our Spring seminar series is cancelled or talks postponed until further notice.
Rock and Mineral Identification services are also suspended until further notice.
The situation remains fluid and can change, so please check back if you have questions.
Thank you for your understanding,
Matthew Lachniet.
