Jack and Fay Ross Scholarship
The Department of Geoscience, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, is pleased to offer the Fay and Jack Ross Family Graduate Scholarships for exceptional applicants to our Ph.D program. These scholarships are provided by an endowment from the family of philanthropists Fay and Jack Ross. Fellowships are available for all research areas supported by the Department and are awarded on the basis of the scholar’s scholastic record and academic potential.
The fellowship provides a stipend of $2,000 per month for twelve months, and up to $3,000 per year for travel and research expenses. In addition, the scholarship pays all tuition, health insurance, and registration fees. These awards are made for two years with the second year contingent on satisfactory student progress.
Qualifications:
To be considered for the Fay and Jack Ross Family Graduate Scholarship, students must meet the following qualifications and submit the following materials:
- Qualify for admission into the Geoscience doctoral program.
- Have a minimum undergraduate and graduate GPA of 3.5.
- Three letters of recommendation from faculty familiar with the student’s research experience and promise.
Selection Process:
Geoscience faculty members are encouraged to recruit and nominate applicants for the Fay and Jack Ross Family Graduate Scholarship. Ross Scholars will be selected by the Geoscience Admissions Committee.
Applicants can submit the required materials by following the instructions in the graduate program.
National Science Foundation EGFP Fellowship
This opportunity is only open to students that have received an Honorable Mention from the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program
We invite applications for the NSF EPSCoR Graduate Fellowships (EGFP) in all areas of Geoscience, particularly those whose research interests align with faculty expertise. Applications are currently being accepted and will continue until all 15 positions are filled. Each Fellowship provides a $37,000 annual stipend for 4 years, along with a tuition and fee waiver.

Internship Opportunities:
Amentum, JETS contract, at NASA Johnson Space Center:
Semester internships are available from Jacobs within the Astromaterials Research and Exploration Science (ARES) division of NASA JSC. This program isn’t typical of traditional lines of funding, in that students have the freedom to develop and explore their own interests with an ARES/Jacobs mentor. Students will work together with mentors to form a work plan for the semester. The plan will have some components of specific work directly relevant to ARES research, but should help the students make progress toward their research and career goals. We are a diverse group with interests in terrestrial planets, primitive materials, organic geochemistry, planetary surface processes, and much more!
Four month stipend, plus housing benefit possible. Potential for more than one semester of funding.
