Welcome! When
people think of southern Nevada they usually think of
Las Vegas with all of its bright lights and gambling.
However, geologists view southern Nevada as a playground
outfitted with a rock record spanning a large portion of Earth's
history. With nearby Red Rock Canyon National Conservation
Area, Lake Mead Recreation Area, Mount Charleston, Frenchman
Mountain-Rainbow Gardens, and Valley of Fire (to name a few), southern Nevada has lots
of outdoor activities to keep the geology enthusiast
entertained for a lifetime.
As a chapter
of the Geological Society of Nevada we
have an active meeting schedule with topics of interest to
many Nevadans. These meetings are usually held
on the last thursday of the month with a social
half-hour preceeding
each meeting. Please note that meetings are open to
anyone who wishes to attend! We also
publish a monthly newsletter and organize field trips
around the southern Nevada area. Take time to check our website
using the links to the left and please join us for one of our meetings!
And check back often for important updates to our meeting and field trip
schedules and to view some of our chapter news!
If you are
interested in becoming a member of our
chapter please go to the main GSN
website and download an application.
Visitors from all over the globe have visited our local website and
now I've added a visitor map so everyone can get a feel for where our site
visitors originate!
