  1. Cut a piece of double sided carbon tape from the roll.
  2. Stick carbon tape to the stub.
  3. Remove paper and place the clean, dry sample on the tape. The stub can also be tipped upside down and placed on less friable, sturdy samples. 
  4. Make sure the sample is held tightly on the tape, use carbon paint to secure and fill any overhangs if necessary. 
  5. Let the carbon paint dry.
  6. Carefully blow (using compressed air) sample off to remove loose particles.
  7. Sputter coat sample with gold
