Supporting the Department of Geoscience helps faculty provide
students with a greater educational experience, and helps students achieve
their goals. The Department provides support to students via scholarships
or Fellowships, and also seeks funds to support special initiatives.
Thank You Donors!
If you would like to make a donation to one of the Department’s
current funding opportunities, you may do so online through the UNLV Foundation, or you may contact William Brown in the
College of Sciences.

Currently, we are seeking support for the following:
Anne Wyman Scholarship
Ann Wyman is a professor emeritus, and one of the founding members, of the Geoscience Department. Dr. Wyman taught approximately 20 years of mineralogy students. This scholarship is awarded to any undergraduate or graduate student in our program.
Graduate Student Fellowship(s)
This is a new award we have created specifically for graduate students. The donor may have the fellowship named after them. Funding provides a graduate student with the opportunity to work on courses and research exclusively. This award is given to an outstanding graduate student entering, or currently enrolled, in our program.
Nathan Stout Memorial Scholarship
This Scholarship was funded by Maureen Wruck. It started as the Death Valley Scholarship and later changed to honor Mr. Nathan Forrest Stout (1948-2005) who graduated from the UNLV Geoscience Department in 1986. He later served the department as staff illustrator and cartographer. As a person confined to a wheelchair, Mr. Stout demonstrated heroic courage and dedication in completing the geology degree, and produced numerous illustrations for many books, scientific papers, and geologic and geographic maps. Mr. Stout is missed not only for his fine, accurate, and artistic craftsmanship, but also for his constantly upbeat and enthusiastic personality. The Nathan Stout Memorial Scholarship is awarded to currently enrolled M.S. or Ph.D. students in our program.
GeoSymposium
The GeoSymposium is a student organized event designed to provide graduate and undergraduate students with an opportunity to present their original research and receive feedback from industry, civic, and government professionals, as well as academic experts. The Symposium is held annually.
